Frequently asked questions.

Who is this work for?

I enjoy working with a great diversity of people and strive to be a culturally competent and inclusive practitioner. If you feel called to this work, then let it be for you.

That said, I have particular success and resonance with:

Sensitive, empathic people

People navigating developmental trauma

Providing a safe, consent focused space for SA survivors.

People living with chronic illness who are exploring touch-based regulation

People who want space to be their whole big kooky selves.

This is a body positive, LGBTQ+ friendly space.

How long between sessions?

This is totally up to you. I recommend between weekly and monthly for people looking to carry a continuity of work. I have many clients I see as needed.

How does somatic touch work differ from talk therapy?

Below the narrative there are physical and energetic patterns. These may have a story, but they also have a life of their own. In these sessions, we are working with the life of those patterns. Talk is invited in service of contacting what is beyond words.

How does this differ from medical treatment?

I invite people living with chronic health conditions to explore touch-based regulation work as a potent addition to the medical treatment they may be receiving. This work is not to diagnose or treat any specific illness. During the course of our work together, I’m happy to connect with treatment teams to ensure appropriate service.

Is this massage?

I’m a licensed massage therapist and for my clients pursuing SOMA Structural Integration, the work looks very similar to massage and has a strong myofascial, structural quality, similar to Rolfing, another form of Structural Integration.

What does the typical session look like?

While there is deep diversity in what these sessions can look like, the most standard flow looks like 15+- minutes of talking to understand the contours of what’s going on. There we listen for what’s trying to move and then follow with the remaining time spent with touch and table work.

There can be dialogue, sharing of intuitive insights, invitations for somatic explorations, and various techniques from many different modalities.

Depending on the content and intention of the sessions, the work may be clothed or with the client dressed to comfort level.
